| I HAVE HYDRANGAS, BOURGENVILLAS (SP?), DIASIES, AND COSMOS THAT GET PLENT OF LUCH FOLIAGE, BUT FAIL TO GET MORE THAN A BLOOM OR TWO. I DO NOT WANT TO USE CHEMICALS IN MY GARDEN. WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS? |
| The usual reason for non-flowering in plants is lack of sufficient sunshine. The second most common reason is over-application of fertilizer. Too much nitrogen can promote lush, green growth at the expense of flowers. Hydrangeas, bougainvilleas, daisies and cosmos all need full day sunshine for best performance so you may need to move your plants. If they are getting plenty of sunshine, then you might want to withhold fertilizer next year to see if they'll bloom more for you. Hope so! |
