what type of plant can I plant now in the ground that will still bloom?

Liz,

You can plant marigolds, petunias, and dwarf zinnias now, but they will die at the first frost sometime in November. At that point I suggest planting ayatollahs, pansies, ornamental kale and ornamental cabbage.
