The Q&A Archives: Growing Arugula

Question: We are trying to grow some arugula we purchased at a garden store. Our question is, it was just planted from the started plants from the garden store and it is already starting to flower. Do we let it flower or should we pinch off the buds?

Answer: Arugula is best sown direct (not transplants) and requires cool weather and plenty of moisture. Stressed plants such as those that are transplanted and/or those subjected to hot or dry conditions will flower earlier than they should. Pinching off the flowers will not encourage much new growth.
