Help relocated to this area from Houston and dealing with a different set of challenges. The grasshoppers are eating the new buds and new leaves. How do I stop this?

Deborah,

Grasshoppers are a challenge indeed. Especially when you live near grasslands. They migrate into your landscape so any attempts to control them although successful just end up with more grasshoppers coming in. Another option is to cover the plants with a lightweight, spunbound polyester rowcover fabric or some type of fine netting. This can help protect the plants from the grasshoppers. However, during an especially bad invasion last year I spoke with a friend who stated that grasshoppers had eaten their way through the rowcover!

Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon!
