When do I cut back my butterfly bush? - Knowledgebase Question

I have a butterfly bush in my bsckyard and I heard that you have to cut severly back in order for it to grow fuller.I noticed it didnt get too full this year and was told I didnt cut it back.When is the best time to do this and how far down from the stems to I cut?

Butterfly bush should be cut back quite hard in mid spring. Cut it back to about a foot to eighteen inches from the ground. This will remove winter damaged branches and also encourage new denser growth. As it regrows, you can tip prune lightly once or twice to encourage additional branching.
