The Q&A Archives: Preparing blueberry bushes for winter

Question: What is the best way to prepare my young blueberry bushes for the winter in Maine?

Answer: As long as you are growing a variety considered winter hardy for your zone (your zip code places you in zone 5) then you will not need to do anything special for them beyond maintaining a layer of organic mulch over the root area. It should be about five inches deep year round. Allow an inch or two between the mulch and the stems of the plant. Here is more information about blueberry care you may find helpful.
