The Q&A Archives: When I prunt or cut back my "Red Bud Tree"?

Question: I am not sure that "Red Bud" is the correct name of this tree, but that was what I was told when it was given to me about 12 years ago. It has gotten quite big (not huge)!! It blooms in early Spring and the flowers are not red instead they are small lavendar color and are very pretty, but shed off quickly..After the flowers sheds it later has a type of bean to come on the tree, which later turn brown and shed off right before it blooms again in the early Spring. These beans can be quite messy when they shed. It is a nice shape, but has gotten too big for the area..however I would like to trim it back and keep it, but have no idea when it is safe to do so. Thank you kindly. Esther Harrell
