I HAVE BEEN PLANTING BLUE LAKE BEANS FOR YEARS AND THIS YEAR A GOOD NUMBER OF THEM HAVE BEEN FLAT
WHY?

Pole beans can be plump or flat, depending upon growing conditions. The most likely cause of flat beans is lack of sufficient moisture, followed by poor soil fertility. Poor pollination might also cause poorly formed seeds inside the beans, which would make the beans look flat rather than plump.
