I live about 30 miles west of Chicago. Is it too late to transplant my bearded iris plants?

In my experience, it is better to transplant iris in late summer. If you do it now, they may not have enough time to become securely rooted before the ground freezes. That means they will be more likely to frost heave during freeze-thaw spells. You could move them in the spring, I think that would be preferable to doing it now.
