To maintain a green lawn all year around you'll want to overseed your St. Augustine with a cool season grass such as rye or Kentucky Bluegrass. 2-3 pounds per 1,000 sq. feet is the standard rate. Start by mowing your turf down low so that the grass seeds can make good contact with the soil. After broadcasting the seeds, water well to rinse the seeds down to soil level. Water frequently to keep the seeds moist. They should germinate in 7-10 days and the grass should green up in 2-3 weeks.

Best wishes with your lawn!
