Since we're heading into winter, you'll want to plant cold tolerant plants such as pansies, primroses, snapdragons and ornamental kale. These should be available in your garden center along with other cold season color spots.

Petunias love hot weather, so now is not the time to plant them. But, in the spring you can set the plants out in a sunny spot. They thrive in well draining soil, full sunshine and thorough watering when the top of the soil dries out. You'll get lots of flowers if you pinch off the old, spent flowers before they set seeds. With my plants, I do this on a daily basis which keeps them flowering all summer long.

Best wishes with your garden!
