| Glads should be planted early in the spring. In your area of the country, you can plant them all most all year 'round. If you plant every 15 days, you'll have a succession of bloom, rather than having them all bloom at once. Plant the corms aboutfour times deeper than their height, and space them about 6 inches apart. Dig the corms when the foliage starts to yellow, cut the foliage off, and store the corms at 40F - 50F degrees. Begin planting again January through March for a succession of bloom. Dahlias are native to Mexico and appreciate being planted in warm soil. Wait until mid-April to plant the tubers. Prepare the soil by digging a 1-foot deep hole, refilling with 3-4 inches of soil and placing the tuber on top of the soil in the hole. Add a stake to support the mature plant and then fill the hole with soil. Dahlias should be planted in full sunshine and the plants should be about three-feet apart. |
