An expert previouly told me I can use a black garbage bag for composting. Should you always use a garden tool to put fork holes in the bag? Or do you only do this under certain circumstnaces?

There are two ways to compost - one is with air flow (aerobic); another is without air (anaerobic). The materials you compost will decompose at a faster rate with air. It will also have less of an odor. I'd recommend poking holes in your garbage bag. It will allow air to enter and excess moisture to escape. Hope this answers your question!
