When I plant pansies, should I spread the roots out or leave tight as in the pot?

Eileen,
The roots should be to tight end for planting cells. If they are you can soak them in water and loose on them a little but generally such loosening is not necessary. Just keep them adequately water so the soil stays moist but not too soggy wet and they should be fine.
