The Q&A Archives: Japanese Maple

Question: My Japanese Maple (Red) is really wilting. It has been quite cold for our area, about 38 Degrees at night. Any suggestions? Or am I going to have to rip them out? Thanks

Answer: Japanese maples are deciduous and will lose their leaves in the winter. The symptoms you describe sound like a normal dropping of foliage. When the weather warms up in the spring, healthy new leaves should develop.

Best wishes with your garden!
