My kitten loved hanging out under the christmas tree. Now that it's gone, I would like to provide him with another refuge from the dogs, what kind of small tree or large bush would be able to live in a corner of my living room? One with low branches the cat can hide behind or under? Any such thing? |
have you considered a Norfolk Island Pine? These are Christmas tree lookalikes and they make terrific houseplants. The branches are low and supple and your kitten will love hiding among them and peering out. Norfolk Island Pines like bright light but prefer not to be in the direct afternoon sun, especially in summer. While they will tolerate shade for short periods, they tend to thin and begin leaning toward the light if kept in low light more than a few weeks. Whenever possible, keep them in a cool location (50-60?). They can tolerate temperatures as low as 40? and will summer successfully outdoors in our area (out of the direct afternoon sun). During periods of excessive heat they tend to droop. Water thoroughly when the top inch of soil dries out. Best wishes with your new plant. |
