The Q&A Archives: Light Requirements for Geranium Seedlings

Question: After geranium seedlings have sprouted and have two leaves how much light do they require?

Answer: Geraniums are extremely popular plants to grow indoors and will bloom almost all year if they get direct sunlight and the temperature stays above 55F degrees at night. If you use fluorescent lights, use two 40 watt tubes (one 'daylight' and 1 'cool white' or two Gro-lite, or simply two cool white bulbs) to provide broad-spectrum light. Keep the light source 6 inches or less above the plants.

Keep the lights on 12-16 hours a day. My mother grew geraniums in a sunny window and theylived for YEARS!
