The Q&A Archives: Winter Care for Birdbath

Question: Will water left in a concrete birdbath cause damage to the concrete if the water freezes?

Answer: It's best to drain the birdbath during the winter months. If you have an unseasonably warm day and the birds are active, refill it with fresh water - but be sure to empty it in the evening. Freezing water expands and can damage concrete.

Best wishes with your garden!
