| I had 8 trees removed completely from front & backyards last February(Thank God it was before this December's Ice Storm). They were mostly dead, on lines, on my neighbor's roof & roots I feared would damage foundation. Now I wish to plant a couple of trees such as silverleaf maple, non-producing mulberry. Actually, I need your advice for healthy shade trees. Thanks! Patty |
| There are a number of shade trees you might consider: Acer rubrum (red maple), Acer saccharum (Legacy Sugar maple), Acer truncatum x plat. (Pacific Sunset maple), Acer x freemanii (Autumn Blaze maple), Betula nigra (River Birch), Carpinus betulus (European Hornbeam), Celtis laevigata (Hackberry), Fraxinus americana (white ash), Gymnocladus dioicus (Kentucky Coffeetree (male), Koelreuteria paniculata (Goldenraintree), Liquidamber styraciflua (Fruitless Sweetgum) Nyssa sylvatica (Black Gum), Pistacia chinensis (Chinese Pistache), Pyrus calleryana (pear), Tilia cordata (Linden), and Zelkova serrata. All are wonderful shade trees and all do wonderfully well in your gardening area. Best wishes with your new trees! |
