Should I be pruning my patriot blue berry bushes? And if so when and how?

Yes, now is the time to prune your blueberry bushes. In winter, when the plants are dormant, you can safely prune them to reduce their size, taking into consideration the the placement of the flower buds (which should be visible now on established plants). Reduce the size of the entire plant, but be careful not to prune out too many of the flower buds or you'll have a small harvest next summer. Start by thinning the plant out, removing the smallest, least productive stems and branches and opening up the center of the plant. Only time and experience can guide you in your pruning technique - just try not to remove too many of the flower buds during your pruning project.
