I have two kiwi vines which are about 6-7 years old. Supposedly one is male and one is female. Are there any specifics on how they should be pruned for best production? Like grapes? I have an aquaintance who never prunes hers. Will she eventually have a problem, or is that the way of it?

Kiwi's are such rampant growers that annual pruning is highly recommended. Like grapes, kiwi produces fruit on one year old wood. I'd prune both the male and female back each year. Here's the address of a website with complete pruning instructions:

Best wishes with your kiwi plants!
