The Q&A Archives: Southern Live Oaks

Question: Need advice on care and feeding and how to prevent root fungus.

Answer: David,

I apologize for this delayed reply to your gardening question and hope it is still helpful to you.

Oaks need little care. When it hasn't rained for a few weeks during hot weather a good soaking is helpful. Fertilize young trees (less than 10 or 15 years old) with a cup or two of lawn fertilizer per inch of trunk diameter spread evenly beneath the branch spread.

Thanks for the question. Best wishes for a wonderful gardening season. Please stop in again soon!
