The Q&A Archives: dipladenia splendens

Question: where is the best place to plant a dipladenia, in the ground or in a pot? I live in southwest Florida within walking distance of the beach.

Answer: Your mandevilla will become a vigorous vining plant so put it in the ground rather than in a pot. It should grow year around for you in your warm winter climate. Mandevilla will flower best in full sun but if your garden gets hot in the afternoon, you might plant it where it will get some shade in mid-afternoon. It prefers well draining soil and should be watered deeply every 5-7 days when it is in bloom.

Enjoy your new mandevilla!
