The Q&A Archives: St Augustine grass

Question: When is the best time to weed and feed St Augustine grass if you live in Jacksonville, Florid and how often should the grass be watered in the wintertime?

Answer: Della,

I apologize for this delayed reply to your gardening question and hope it is still helpful to you.

The best time to weed is not the best time to feed a lawn. The best time to apply weed control is from mid February through early March. The best time to fertilize St. Augustine grass in your area is about early April. Water in the winter only as needed to maintain moderate moisture during extended dry spells. Temperature, soil type and sun exposure all affect watering frequency dramatically.

Thanks for the question. Best wishes for a wonderful gardening season. Please stop in again soon!
