I am still seeking an answer to my problem about water damaging my maple tree. I hope you can help. I asked about water sitting in the crotch of my maple tree where the 3 branches come together. Will this damage my tree by rotting it? If so how can I prevent water from collecting there? How do you fill the pocket and with what do you use? Would really like an answer ,I've tried other sites but no one has come up with a solution for me . Please help before it's to late. |
I'm sorry you did not receive our first response to your question and had to ask a second time. As long as you do not allow debris to collect in the area, the water should drain on its own. I wouldn't recommend filling the crotch with anything because the bark and branches will continue to grow and anything you place in the way will cause abnormal growth (and appearance). And, any foreign matter can trap excess moisture and inhibit the health and natural growth of the bark. Just make sure leaves, etc. do not collect in the area. As the tree grows, the crotch will become smaller and less apt to collect rainwater. Best wishes with your landscape! |
