The Q&A Archives: English Ivy?

Question: Will English Ivy do well as a ground cover underneath Chinese Elm trees in Rock Springs, Wyoming (zone 5) and require little water after becoming established? I want something that looks "full" and green, yet requires little effort. When should I order them from Home Depot and plant them?

Also, because of wood slats, I dare not plant the ivy in front of the house, but I would like something similar to the English Ivy which is equally as simple to maintain and has that same "full" effect. The front of the house faces south and is exposed to the sun more than any other area of the front yard. Any suggestions for something affordable?

Thanks for your help.
