The Q&A Archives: can i use wash water for my flowers

Question: due to the fact that here in texas it gets so hot and dry and we have to pay for our water we was wondering if we could use the water from our washing machine to water flowers, plants ect.

thank you

Answer: Using water from your washing machine isn't a good idea. The detergent it contains can be detrimental to your plants. If you could channel just the rinse water (as long as you don't use a rinse agent or conditioner), you should be able to use it on ornamental plants because any detergent residue would be greatly diluted. Hope this information helps!
