The Q&A Archives: grape vines

Question: when is the best time to plant grape vines in Georgia and will they grow on a long will it take them to harvest first fruit...they are about 1 foot tall ...and ready to plant

Answer: Spring is the best time to plant new grapevines. Yours will grow along a fence but you'll need to do a lot of pruning to keep them from overtaking the yard. Grapes produce fruit on 2-3 year old spurs so it will take at least 3 years before your plant produces fruiting wood. It will be worth the wait, though. Enjoy!
