The Q&A Archives: House Plants

Question: How does one know when to change pots?

Answer: Houseplants can remain in the same pots for several years but when the roots become crowded and begin growing out of the drainage holes in the bottom of the pot, it's time to graduate them to a larger pot. If your plant has been in its pot for 3 years or more, it may be time to repot it. Use fresh potting soil when you repot.
