Good Morning,

I recently purchased the peat moss pellet seed starter kits (green house) to plant my veggie seeds. I followed the directions and today (1 week later) i have this fuzzy mold growing on the top of the ones I planted the corn and peas in. I was wondering what I was doing wrong? Is there something i can add to the water that will stop this from happening?
THese starters are the pressed peat moss pellets that you add water to, allow to expand and than plant your seeds in. They have a plastic cover that acts as a green house. The temp of the peat moss is between 70-75 degrees.
Any assistance you can provide, i would greatly appreciate.

Thanks,
Shari Murphy

What you are describing is the result of too much moisture/humidity around your seedlings. Remove the plastic cover to encourage good air circulation and the fungus should die out on its own. Do this immediately, before the fungus has a chance to attack the seedlings and cause damping off. The plastic cover is helpful in keeping the soil moist when starting seeds, but it should be removed as soon as the seeds germinate and you begin to see little seedlings sprouting.

Best wishes with your new seedlings!
