The Q&A Archives: starting orchids from root cuttings

Question: How would you go about starting orchids from root cuttings? I've started three and was curious as to whether or not I'd done it correctly.

Answer: I suspect you have cut divisions from the rhizome (looks like a long, fleshy root). As long as each cutting has both roots, and a green sprout (either leaf or stem) attached, you only need to pot each cutting up and place them near the parent plant. Not because they will get lonely but because the growing conditions are probably perfect where the parent plant is growing.

Best wishes with your new orchids!
