| Michael, I apologize for this delayed reply to your gardening question. The spring rush has brought a deluge of questions and we are working hard to catch up! Althea is a popular tree or shrub in the South. If pruned up around the base can be trained in to a more "treelike" form. It's just another option and how to train this plant.
