I need something to plant in a planter on the front of my house and does not get much sun. It also needs to be deer resistant. I replaced the dirt with garden soil and planted rosemary but it didn't make it. Any suggestons.

Jane,

I apologize for this delayed reply to your gardening question. The spring rush has brought a deluge of questions and we are working hard to catch up!

Those are some difficult requirements for any plant to fill. While there are some plants with deer do not prefer when you add a factor of wanting beauty and/or color in the shade there's not much to choose from. A few plants to consider include Leadwort Plumbago (Ceratostigma plumbaginoides), Purple Heart (Setcreasea pallida), and if the light levels are not too low, Trailing Lantana (Lantana montevidensis).

Thanks for the question. Best wishes for a wonderful gardening season. Please stop in again soon!
