| Magnolias tend to be slow growers; the growth rate is variable, depending on the variety, but generally it grows at a slow to medium rate of 1 to 2 feet yearly. It responds to water and fertilization with faster growth so be sure your tree is watered deeply once a week during the growing season and feed it each spring with an acidic based fertilizer (such as one for rhododendrons and azaleas).
