The Q&A Archives: Apple trees

Question: Red delicious apples got tree at home depot 2 years ago and did not plant another next to it.I just purchased a granny smith apple tree (Today)should I plant it 20'-25' from the other tree OR ? can I get away with planting granny smith somewhere else in yard like 50'-75' away ? ..Would the fruit grow away from each other ?

Answer: Granny Smith and Red Delicious will be good pollinizers for each other. As long as your trees are within 100' of one another, the bees and other pollen transfering insects should be able to find the flowers of both. Hope you have a bountiful harvest!
