This past weekend I built a compost bin.It measures 40 x 40 x 40.I made it from 2 x 4's and surrounded it with chicken wire.I want to place it behind my garage. It stays shady behind my garage all day. Can I still compost in the shade?

Absolutely! The heat is generated from "within" the compost itself. The sun helps, but is definitely not necessary. I've never had a compost bin in the sun. I think we all tend to put them in the most unobtrusive spot...and most often that's in the shade.
