I want a small tree that will grow only 8-10 feet tall and can take afternoon sun. I don't want a crepe myrtle, I already have 4 of them. What do you recommend?

Beverly,

That is a pretty short size for a tree. Most of the smaller option will need to be pruned some to keep them in that size range. Some other options include Mexican plum, ornamental peach, smaller types of deciduous magnolia, Texas Mountain Laurel and Anacacho orchid.
