The Q&A Archives: begonias

Question: i want to plant begonias in an island under a japanese maple tree...some plants will get full sun; others will get part sun...someone in HD's garden shop told me that full sun will lighten the leaves of the plants...true or false? also some of the plants that i bought have dark purplish leaves...others have a medium green leaf...will these med. green leaves turn to the darker shade?

Answer: Dianne,

The shades won't change. However the burgundy foliaged ones will take lots of sun better than the green foliaged ones. Keep them adequately watered but not soggy wet.
