The Q&A Archives: How can I control the bugs that are eating my flowers?

Question: hi. I have a gang of black hopping bugs that are devouring select plants in my flower garden. They have either a single yellow or a single red stripe running from head to tail and are about an inch long. I want them gone, dead, whatever. I do not have any children or pets if a pesticide is necessary. I just need to know what to use. thanks

Answer: Norma,

Very strange. The description doesn't bring any particular pest to mind. So I suggest you try a general purpose, natural insecticide such as something containing pyrethrin. Spray early in the morning when the bug are more sluggish and less apt to fly away. Repeat spray as needed.
