2 yrs ago i planted daffodis that i received in pots. i do not cut them down until they are totally brown and wilted. this year some of them only have leaves and no stem/flower, do you know why and will they have stem/flowers next year? help thank you |
A couple of possibilities come to mind. First, if the daffodils were originally forced to bloom out of season (gift plants are often forced to bloom), then it will take them 2-3 years to get back into their normal blooming habit. If this is the case, you'll just have to be patient. Another possibility is that the bulbs are overcrowded and are competing for moisture and nutrition. In this case, dig and separate the bulbs so they have more room to grow. The last possibility is that the bulbs need some nutrition. You can purchase bulb food and broadcast it over the bed, then scratch it into the soil. Hope this information is helpful. |
