The Q&A Archives: Compost

Question: We have moved into an older home in Lubbock. The yard was 12 to 15 inches above the base of the house. We have scraped the dirt off and are starting over with yard etc. I want to put in raised beds for gardening and herbs and will want to start a compost pile

Answer: Sandy,

Composting is a matter of mixing green and brown materials from the landscape and kitchen and then keeping it moist to speed decomposition. It can be done in a bin or in a heap on the ground. Turn the pile after about 6 weeks and again 6 weeks later to insure more complete decomposition. The following web sites give lots more great info!
