| This is a case where it would be easier to show you than to try to describe the process! Your bleeding hearts were shipped "bareroot." This just means that the soil has been washed from the roots, so you won't risk introducing any soil-borne diseases into your garden, and the plant is lighter and cleaner to ship. Bareroot plants are easy to handle and settle in quickly. Tuck your bleeding heart plants into the ground with the roots pointing downwards and the "eyes" or growing points about an inch below soil level. Space plants about 3 - 3.5 feet apart to allow for their mature size. The roots will look slightly dry and brown; the shoots will be a creamy white to green. There will be lots more roots than shoots. Hope this description helps! |
