| It's true that some plants resent being divided, but creeping phlox is not one of those plants. You can safely divide it in the spring (after flowering) or in the fall. You should be able to either cut it into divisions, or pull it apart into smaller clumps. The key is to make sure each division has both roots and stems attached. After replanting your clumps and watering them in well, expect them to look wilted and unhappy for a few weeks. This stressful period will make the division look pathetic, but as soon as the roots re-establish themselves, the plants will perk up and grow well for you. Best wishes with your phlox! |
