I WOULD LIKE TO BUILD A STONE OR BLOCK TYPE GARDEN IN MY BACK YARD BY THE EXISTING BLOCK WALL. MY QUESTION IS HOW WIDE SHOULD IT BE AND HOW DEEP? I PLAN ON A FEW VEGTABLE PLANTS (TOMATOES,ETC) AND SOME FLOWERS TOO. THE WALL IS 40' LONG. THANK YOU BOBBY |
For ease in maintenance, make the planter about 3' deep (so you can reach to the back of the planting area with ease). It should be at least 24" deep to accommodate roots of your veggies and perennial flowers, but it can be deeper if you'd like. Fill it with topsoil and plant. You might even want to install a drip system prior to planting if you know where you want to place your plants. Otherwise, you can water by hand or set a sprinkler on the bed to water. Best wishes with your new garden! |
