I am planning to plant an 8X8 vegetable box garden in my back yard. I was wondering if the ground should be tilled or if I could just fill in the box with the topsoil and mulch. I live southeast of Atlanta, Georgia and we have red clay. Thank you so much for your help.

You don't have to till the ground prior to building your raised garden bed but you should use a shovel to rough up or break up the top few inches of your native soil before adding the topsoil and mulch. By just roughing up the soil, you'll be sure that the drainage will be good in your new bed. Best wishes with your new veggie garden!
