| I would like to put grass on the side of my house and it gets no sun whats so ever.What kind of grass would you recommend be instaling or what other idea would you recommend;there is dirt there now. |
| Turfgrass grows best in full sunshine. It can be a challenge to grow grass in a shaded area, but it can be done. First, select shade tolerant grasses. The fine-leaf fescues are considered the most shade tolerant of the cool-season grasses. Creeping red fescue, Chewing?s fescue, sheep fescue and hard fescue all have shown promise in heavily shaded areas. Next, good management practices are important. Grasses can't grow thick and lush without infrequent but deep watering and regular mowing. Grasses in shade don't require as much fertilizer as those in the sun and they can't tolerate as much foot traffic. But, if you water and mow regularly and keep foot traffic to a minimum, you can have an attractive lawn in your side yard. Best wishes with your new lawn! |
