Any ideas on how to control moles from getting into a small garden area in the front of the house. Someone had said to put lyme in the dirt. Not sure what to do? My Mom does not want to put flowers in and them continue to destroy it. We don't want to hurt them just get rid of them from that area.

If the area is small, you might be able to discourage them by placing a barrier around the perimeter of the garden by burying hardware cloth. Hardware cloth is a metal sheet with holes - like a mesh - and will allow water to move through the soil without problem but will effectively keep the pests from tunneling through the soil into the flower bed. Aside from barriers and/or trapping, it's hard to eliminate moles.
