For the most part, pansies are cool season plants (they thrive under the cooler conditions of late fall, winter and early spring). They will grow in either full sun or shade but will begin to die down when temperatures start to rise. If you love pansies, plant them in the fall and enjoy them until late spring, then pull them out of the garden and replace with something else. Pansies grow best when watered every 3-4 days if they're planted in sandy soil.
