I am new to starting a garden and I just bought seeds of Angel's Trumpet Ballerina, Ballon Flower, Astra Double, Aster Opus, and Aster Seaster. I live in Zone 9 (lower Arizona) and I was wondering if there is a certain way to plant these seeds and if I can just plant them outside or do I have to plant them inside? |
You can plant your seeds directly in the ground. For real success, take some time to prepare the planting bed - you'll be greatly rewarded this summer. Start by removing any weeds in the area and digging down into the soil with a shovel to loosen it up. Then spread 3-4" of organic matter (such as compost or aged manure) over the top of the bed and then dig it in to a depth of about 8". Rake the soil smooth and then plant. The organic matter will help loosen the soil, help it hold moisture, and release nutrients to the roots of your plants. Sow your seeds as directed on the packages and then carefully sprinkle the bed to help settle the seeds. Once your plants are up and growing you can place another 2-3" of organic matter over the top of the bed to help suppress weeds, moderate soil temperatures and slow water evaporation. Keep your new plants watered well and they should bloom their little heads off. Enjoy! |
