The Q&A Archives: Yellow Splash Hosta

Question: I recently purchased a Yellow Splash Hosta that has an unusual flower beginning to bud -- it is shaped like a sunflower but has the exact same green/yellow/white leaves that the hosta plant has. The blooms stem is about as big around as my little finger. I've never seen a Hosta bloom in this way - is this a unique kind of Hosta and is this normal? I have pictures that I could e-mail if necessary. Thank you.

Answer: I don't think you're alone in your observation. I found a similar photo on the web:

Check and see if this resembles yours. If so, it's obviously a normal thing.
